When you keep a position open overnight, a broker usually charges a fee for holding it, often called a swap. With us, the first 3 days of every position are swap-free: no storage fee at all. Each new position starts its own free days.
From day 4: a daily fee at midnight
From day 4, a storage fee is charged daily at midnight:
- Currencies (forex): $5 per lot per day
- Metals (gold, silver): $25 per lot per day
- Crypto: 40% a year of the position's value, charged daily — (number of coins × entry price × 0.4) / 365 a day
- Indices, oil and other commodities: no storage fee, because they are futures contracts with an expiry date
No triple Wednesday
Many brokers charge three days of swap on Wednesday night to cover the weekend. We do not: Wednesday costs the same as any other day.
Plan the length of a trade
If you plan to hold gold or a currency pair for more than 3 days, count the daily fee in your plan, just like the spread. For indices and oil, watch the contract's expiry date instead.
Worked example
- You hold 1 lot of gold for 5 days.
- The first 3 days: no storage fee.
- Day 4 and day 5: 2 × $25 = $50.
- 1 BTC bought at $81,800: about $89.64 a day from day 4.
Key points
- The first 3 days of every position are swap-free.
- From day 4, charged daily at midnight: $5 per lot per day on currencies and $25 per lot per day on metals.
- Crypto pays 40% a year of the position's value, charged daily; indices, oil and other commodities pay no storage fee.
- No triple charge on Wednesday.
