General education about how markets and MetaTrader 5 work. Not investment advice or a recommendation to buy or sell. It does not take your personal situation into account; every trading decision is yours.
Most losses come from the market. Some come from people. This lesson covers both: the risk of short-term trading, and how to keep your account and your money out of the wrong hands.
Short-term trading is risky
Short-term trading means opening and closing positions within minutes, hours or days. It carries real risk:
- Leverage: every move is counted on the full size of the position, not on the money set aside for it. A small move can be a large loss.
- Speed: around the news, prices can move several dollars in seconds and jump past a Stop Loss.
- Costs: every new position starts behind by the spread, so trading more often costs more.
- Nobody knows the next move. Not you, not us, not anyone who says they do.
Decide the most you accept to lose before every trade, and practise on the free demo before you use real money.
Passwords, codes and keys
- Your passwords: use one for your Investo account that you use nowhere else, and keep your MT5 password to yourself.
- Codes: a code we send you is for you alone. Never read it out or send it to anyone, even someone who says they are from Investo Markets.
- Keys: if you send crypto from your own wallet, its seed phrase (the 12 or 24 words) is the wallet. Never type it into a site, a form or a chat, and never photograph it.
We will never ask you to send us your MT5 password, a code, a card number or a seed phrase, or for remote access to your phone or computer.
Check where your money goes
Our deposit details are shown only inside your Investo account. If anyone sends you another address, a bank account or a payment link, do not pay. Before you confirm a withdrawal, check the address on the screen against your own wallet, character by character at the start and the end. Crypto sent to a wrong address cannot be brought back.
Signs of a scam
- Pressure to act quickly: "today only", "your account will be closed".
- A request for a code, a password, remote access or money.
- Unusual payment instructions: a new address, a personal account, a gift card, a payment link.
- Anyone who promises you a return, a monthly percentage, or that you cannot lose.
- Anyone in a private message who says they are Investo Markets, our team or our founder. Our founder will never message you privately or ask you for money.
- Anyone who offers to recover money you have lost, for a fee.
What to do
Stop. Do not pay, do not share a code, do not install anything. Check the number, the handle or the link with Investo Verify on our site, and talk to us only through Live support.
Made-up example
- A message from a number you do not know: "This is Investo Markets. Your account will be closed today. Send us your password and pay the fee to this new address."
- Red flag 1: pressure, "closed today".
- Red flag 2: a request for your password.
- Red flag 3: payment to a new address, outside your Investo account.
- What to do: no answer, no payment. Check the number with Investo Verify and tell Live support.
Key points
- Short-term trading is risky: leverage, speed and costs work against you, and nobody knows the next move.
- Your passwords, codes and seed phrase are yours alone. We will never ask you to send them to us.
- Pay only to the deposit details inside your Investo account, and check every withdrawal address.
- Pressure, requests for codes or money, unusual payment instructions and promised returns are signs of a scam. Check with Investo Verify.
